Picking up where we left off, where were we again? On the road somewhere…perhaps in Texas if I recall? Oh yes that’s correct we were south of the Houston area. How’s it going everyone? It’s your favorite course bagger, The Road Warrior PDGA 88660, with another Tales from the Road. In Episode 2 of this series I will talk about Days 3 and 4 of my most recent course bagging trip. So without further ado here’s Episode 2.
Summer Break road trip the Texas Heat 2022 Tour
Day 3
Here’s how it played out:
899-Clute Park in Clute TX-18 hole course that was basically 2 9’s meshed together. The “new” front 9 holes were pretty decent, only about 3 pads were done, and some interesting lines. Hole 1 had 2 sets of Mandos on it. Decent balance of hole lengths. Cross the street to play holes 10-18. I’d guess this is the original layout as the baskets were old DGA baskets. The back 9 was more open compared to the front 9.
900-Corner Stone Church in Lake Jackson TX-18 hole course that played around the church’s property. A decent mix of shots with open and wooded lines to be hit. Not technical and not wide open. A few of the baskets have seen better times and it appears they lost some battles with the mowers. For a church course it wasn’t all that bad.
901-Jones Creek Ranch Park in Richmond TX-18 hole course that must’ve just been installed recently. Park style course and it had a nice balance of long/short/moderate length holes. A couple of creek shots and one pond shot kept things spicy. There were a couple of wooded holes, 6-8 that were challenging. This course was getting a nice bit of action for a Friday at 1:30 pm. Fun course.
I had originally planned to play Oak Meadow next, but when I pulled it up on UDisc it said by appointment. Maybe I can play it next time I’m down here
902-Zube Park in Hockley TX-18 hole course that has seen a lot of action. The chainstar basket were well used but still did there job. The course starts out very bland before you get to about hole 6 and it improves. One shot over a pond was nice, but then it was back to bland golf again. A few shorter holes towards the end to let you run some chains and it finishes with a couple nice semi wooded holes. Not a bad play but compared to some other courses there wasn’t a lot of variety.
903-Texas Army Trails in Cyprus TX-18 hole course that starts off slow but by hole 5 it’s game on! The woods here are sweet and the lines are great. Some long snaking holes from 8-11 required you to shape shots. Hole 13 forces you to throw over the creek and makes you concentrate on your accuracy. Some elevation here but not like mountian golf. Hole 17 is a nasty dog leg right hole that if you don’t execute she will punish you. Then you finish your round with a butt puckering shot over the creek and if you don’t execute you’ll be taking a swim. Thankfully the TP Warship did its job and I was able to stay dry.
With all that said it’s been an interesting, fun, challenging, unique, frustrating, tiring, rewarding ride to get to 900. I want to thank my family first and foremost for letting me do what I do and chase these goals. Thanks to all of you who have dropped a comment here and there. I truly appreciate it. As always thanks to my sponsors Chris Smith of Hyzernauts and Chad Nech of Flight Farm. Both of these guys have provided me with the clothes, hats, discs, towels, etc to look cool and represent them on these adventures. Hit both of them up to support the ones that support me.
Now off to work on 950!

Day 4
What a scorcher down here. Hot and humid but some really good disc golf today:
904-Northside Christian Church in Spring TX-18 hole course that starts off wide open before using a few of the pines to shape shots on holes 2-5. Hole 6(I played from the turf pad) makes you throw over the pond in front of the church with OB on the left. A tricky shot. I do believe there was an actual pad and a small pond to throw over if you chose to. Holes 7-12 take you into the woods and this is where the action is. Some sweet shots and the holes weren’t super long but had some teeth non-the-less. Holes 13-17 played around the perimeter of the church’s land and the holes were open for the most part. Hole 18 was a super long 650+ hole that was wide open. For some reason the basket was across the entry road? Seems like a safety issue but meh. This course was super packed so it must be decent.
905-Savannah Oaks Apt complex in Spring TX-4 hole practice course for the residents of the apartment complex. I stumbled on this after finishing hole 16 at Northside. Nothing more than 4 baskets in a drainage area. Odd
906- Stonebridge Church in Magnolia TX-18 hole course that had a secluded feel. Another wooded course and it had a solid mix of short/moderate/longer holes. A couple of open holes like 6 and a sweet double mando through two pines over the pond will keep it spicy. The baskets are getting run down and an upgrade would spruce it up a tad. Another popular course in the Houston area.
A fun course.
907-McDade Park in Conroe TX-18 hole course that was mostly flat and was well balanced. Not quite as technical as the above mentioned course but it did require you to shape shots and hit gaps. More of a park style wooded course I guess you would call it.
908-Little Egypt/John Burge Park in Conroe TX-18 hole course, and this course is sweet. Woods golf at its finest and elevation as well. There were a couple of holes that had some length but for the most part the holes were reachable. You must hit lines here to score well. One review said it was better than TX Army trails and I’m not sure I agree. TX Army trails had at least 2 holes that you had to set up shots for the next shot(placement golf) and had 2 creek shots to spice things up. Little Egypt didn’t have that but its still an awesome course. It reminded me of Scrapyard and Reedy Creek, minus the elevation, which are both in the Charlotte NC area. I’d play this course again for sure. Good course.
909-Gwen Hruska Park in Conroe TX-9 hole course in which the first 3 holes play by themselves and the next 6 play along the golf course. Holes 2 and 3 were decent but the rest was just the same shot over and over. A filler course, nothing more.
Overall another solid day of disc golf. I’m getting to play courses that make me work on shots that I don’t normally have to work on back home and that is a good thing. The wooded golf is a nice break from grip it and rip it or play it safe and avoid water golf that I’m accustomed to. Hopefully I can knock some more courses out in the area tomorrow. Until next time
So in recap Day 3 was a wet start. I didn’t get to the first course in Clute until about 9 am or so. On and off rain for the whole round made gripping the disc kinda difficult. I was wearing my newly purchased Enid Disc Golf Club shirt so I’m sure that helped some. Head into Flight Farm today and pick up one for yourself. On this day I was able to hit course #900. I set a goal for myself this summer to hit 900 before school starts back up and I’m happy to report that I hit my goal on this most recent trip. My next goal is to get to 950. Will it happen before the end of 2022? That remains to be seen.
Day 4 was a sweatbox from the start. You know you are in for a long, hot, sweaty day when at 8:30 am on your first course of the day you’re soaking wet! My advice, get yourself some sweatbands, a couple of towels just for sweat, baby powder, and a good birdie bag/dirt bag.
None of these will eliminate the sweat, but they will help to keep you dry as best as is possible during those sultry summer rounds. Little Egypt/John Burge Park in Conroe TX was the highlight of Day 4 of my trip. Such a fun course both it and Texas Army Trails are must plays if you are in the Houston area.
